What changes when the group arrives by ship
A cruise call is not a city tour with a different starting point. The ship's arrival and departure times are confirmed late, sometimes only a few days before the call, and they are non-negotiable. The cruise terminal sits away from the city centre, vehicles do not wait inside its perimeter, and the meeting point is set outside it. Every minute spent getting the group from the gangway to the coach is a minute taken from the excursion itself.
This is why we build every programme backwards from the return to the ship rather than forwards from the list of things worth seeing. We hold a comfortable margin against the all-aboard time, and when something runs late, the itinerary gives way, never the margin. Guests who spend the last hour watching the clock have not had a good day, whatever they saw.
For larger groups, we split into two or more parallel units that rotate through the same programme in a different order. Each unit has its own guide and its own vehicle, which keeps the visits intimate and removes the bottleneck of sixty people entering the same workshop or restaurant at once.
Something active, unusual and memorable, not a classic sightseeing tour
Most shore excursions sold in Marseille are the same coach loop: the basilica, the old port, a photo stop, back to the ship. It works, and we can operate it. But the briefs we receive from operators increasingly ask for something else: a group that does rather than watches, a programme guests will talk about on board that evening, a day that feels like Marseille rather than like a cruise excursion.
The formats we build for these briefs include a street art walk followed by a hands-on workshop with a local artist; a food-led itinerary through the markets and the old neighbourhoods with tastings at addresses we know personally; a boat excursion into the Calanques National Park, weather permitting, departing from the Vieux-Port; a coastal walk to a fishing hamlet with lunch by the water; and, on a full call with an early start, a half day in Cassis or in Aix-en-Provence. Each is adapted to the language of the group, the fitness level of the guests and the time actually available.
How we work with tour operators and cruise operators
We operate on net rates or commission, whichever suits the partner, and we come back with a first proposal within 48 hours of receiving a brief. The proposal states what is included, the timing from gangway to gangway, the group split, the language of the guides, and what happens if the weather closes the sea or the ship's schedule moves. The partner keeps the relationship with its passengers; we operate the ground.
A useful brief contains the ship's expected arrival and departure times, the number of guests and their languages, the level of activity the group can handle, and whether food is a priority or simply a stop. Plan B is part of the plan
Marseille is a city of wind. When the mistral blows, boat departures are cancelled by the harbour authorities, sometimes on the morning itself. Every programme that includes the sea has a land alternative of equal quality already booked in outline, so the switch is made by a phone call rather than by improvisation on the quay. The same logic applies to a delayed berthing: a shortened version of the day exists on paper before the ship arrives.

How long can a shore excursion from Marseille last?
It depends entirely on the ship's timing. A standard call allows a half-day programme of four to five hours from gangway to gangway. A full call with an early arrival allows a full-day programme, including destinations outside the city such as Cassis or Aix-en-Provence. We confirm the format once the ship's schedule is known.
What group sizes do you handle for cruise calls?
From about twenty to sixty guests per call. Beyond fifteen to twenty people we split the group into parallel units, each with its own guide and vehicle, rotating through the same programme in a different order.
Do you provide guides in languages other than English?
Yes. We regularly operate in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Other languages can be arranged on request with sufficient notice.
What happens if the weather cancels the boat?
A land alternative of equal quality is prepared for every programme that includes the sea, and it is activated by a single phone call on the morning of the call. The partner is informed as soon as the harbour authorities make their decision.
Do you sell directly to cruise passengers?
No. We operate on the ground for tour operators, cruise lines and agencies. The relationship with the passengers stays with our partner, and we never contact them directly.
Can you handle a group arriving by ship and staying on in Provence?
Yes. For guests disembarking in Marseille rather than sailing on, we design the onward stay in the same way as any of our Provence programmes: accommodation, transfers, guides and restaurants, handled by the same local team.
